Pastor Armando Vera of the Hispanic Ministerial Alliance, along with wife Luz Vera, join the fast chain in San Juan, Sept 3, 2013.

As a public official who works closely with the community, you know that border militarization undermines our image as a forward-thinking and welcoming community, and impedes better opportunities for economic development. Our bi-national community should not be divided by more border walls and deportations.

That is why we have decided to conduct a 40-day Fast Chain, Ayuno y Oración en Contra de la Militarización y a Favor de Ciudadanía (Fast and Prayer against Militarization and for Citizenship). Each day at 12pm we will gather at LUPE’s San Juan office, where individuals will begin their fast and will share their reasons for making the 24 hour sacrifice.

We request your participation on October 4 at 12 noon at our San Juan office, located at the corner of Cesar Chavez Rd and Business 83, and return the following day at the same time to conclude your fast. As a leader in the community, your participation in the 24 hour fast will inspire members of the community to put their conscience into action and pick up the fast.
